• David Gilmour's own guitar solo style is often characterized by blues-influenced phrasing, expressive note bends and sustain.

• In 2008, David Gilmour won the Ivor Novello Lifetime Contribution Award 2008, recognising his excellence in music writing. Still in this year, Gilmour also was recognised for his outstanding contribution to music by the Q Awards. 

• In 2011, David Gilmour was rated the 14th Greatest Guitarist by the Rolling Stone magazine.

• On November 2009, Gilmour received an honorary doctorate from the Anglia Ruskin University. 

• In 1996, David Gilmour was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Pink Floyd.

• Gilmour is an experienced pilot and aviation enthusiast. Under the aegis of his company, Intrepid Company, he had amassed a collection of historical aircraft. He later decided to sell his company, saying that he started it as a hobby and now it's becoming too comercial for him to handle.

• David Gilmour was married to the American model Ginger Gilmour on July 7th, 1975. The couple had four children: Alice, Claire, Sara and Matthew. After the couple divorced in 1990, in the following year, David married the novelist and journalist Polly Samson and the couple had four children: Joe, Gabriel, Romany and their adopted son Charlie.

• David Gilmour is the godfather to the actress Naomi Watts. 

• David Gilmour has been associated with many charity organizations. In May 2003, he sold his house in Little Venice to the 9th Earl Spencer and donated the proceeds worth £3,6 billion to Crisis to help fund a housing project for the homeless people. 

• Gilmour also donated £25,000 to Save The Rhino foundation in exchange for Douglas Adam suggesting the name for the album that became The Division Bell. 

• In 1965, four years before enter to Pink Floyd, David Gilmour made some streets performances along Syd Barrett and other friends around Spain and France, performing songs by The Beatles, but they were not successful, being arrested on an occasion and living virtually a hand-to-mouth experience, which resulted in Gilmour requiring treatment in a hospital for malnutrition. Gilmour and Barrett later trekked to Paris, where they camped outside the city for a week before visiting the Louvre Museum. During this time, Gilmour worked as the driver and assistant for the fashion designer Ossie Clark.

• David Gilmour is an atheist and has stated in interviews that he does not believe in afterlife. 

• When asked about his political views, Gilmour has stated that he is left-wing, and said "I still consider myself to be more a socialist than anything else, even if I can't quite stick with political parties". 

• In May 2017, Gilmour supported the Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn in the 2017 UK General Election, and tweeted: "I'm voting Labour because I believe in social equality".
